Fabrika and new Polish radio programme
This year, Polish Association NI in Association with Czech and Slovak Association NI has sought to broaden the scope and ambition of the festival by joining forces with other eastern European countries to create a larger festival: Fabrika - Festival of Eastern Europe. The countries involved include Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic,. Northern Ireland has welcomed many migrants from these countries over the last number of years - migrants who have come here to work, to study, to play, to live - basically those same things that all humans seek to do whether Irish, British, Estonian or Czech. And so Fabrika aims to celebrate these common traits and aspirations of our fellow humans and our fellow Europeans. And it will do this in a week-long festival of cultural and community-based events celebrating our diversity and commonality as Europeans.

Homely Planet will be recording items from the week to include in the launch of a NEW POLISH RADIO PROGRAMME!

'Kontakt' Program Polskiego Radia, will be a regular radio programme in partnership with Polish Association NI, Polish Abroad and Polish Kameleon Youth Initiative.

The programmes will be mostly broadcasted in the Polish Language and broadcasted weekly as part of Homely Planet's schedule. It is hoped that each programme will be available to download from various Polish websites.

Kontakt will feature articles on the arts, music, spoken word, events, politics and current affairs that relates to the Polish community in Northern Ireland. The programme will also look at global events that would interest the Polish Community. 'Kontakt' will be broadcasting mid-August.

Action Week Against Racism!
As part of the European-Wide Action Week against Racism 13-21 March 2010, Elmgrove Primary School in East Belfast will be hosting a music performance and Homely Planet radio forum with pupils from Knockloughrim Primary School.

In 2009 P6 and 7 pupils from Knockloughrim embarked on a song-writing project. Together, they explored structure of songs and reason for writing. They discovered that music can be a powerful medium for expressing our feelings and thoughts about important issues.

At the time of the project, two soldiers and one policeman were shot in Northern Ireland. Pupils were baffled by these events and confused as to what was happening. They then decided to write a song about it that would clearly put across the message that we do not want to go back to the troubles that our parents experienced in the past.

They wanted to show that despite religion and background, we all need to learn how to get along and value each other.

The outcome was the song 'We can't go back'.

The recorded radio programme from the Elmgrove/Knockloughrim session will be available on: www.belfasteast.net and broadcasted on Homely Planet radio from 21st March.

Connecting Cultures
A radio format in partnership with the organisation "Connecting Cultures" has become a great success, with sessions taking place around the province.

The Connecting Cultures program is a facilitated Q&A session to take away the "mystery" that may surround cultures due to the fact that people may not have the opportunity to ask the questions.

So here is that opportunity; no political correctness, no language skills and no question is stupid. Each session will have at least four people on the panel representing four different countries.

"This has been our greatest program success to date. A simple idea, but one that really is breaking stereotypes and assisting cultural relations"
(Darren Ferguson - project manager)

World Music in Northern Ireland
World music in Northern Ireland? you may ask. Yes it has been bubbling under the surface and Beyond Skin in the process of working with musicians from different cultures have recognised the need to help develop the world music sector to assist cultural relations.

www.worldmusicni.com is a new website that is an extension of Beyond Skin's social enterprise Motion2Music.

With the added support Homely Planet radio offers combined with the service World Music NI aims to provide, Northern Ireland could prove to be a diamond in the rough within the global world music scene.
